Religious Education

'The whole purpose of religion is to facilitate love and compassion, patience, tolerance, humility, and forgiveness.'

Dalai Lama

We consider Religious Education is a core subject here at Beechwood C E Primary School. As a Church of England school, we recognise and value the contribution that RE plays a crucial and active role in the education of every young person here and the teaching and importance of RE will assist our children to consider deep questions. This will  help them to engage in their own personal search for meaning.

The broad and progressive Religious Education curriculum is set from the Worcester Locally Agreed Syllabus.   We teach four primary religions of the world, with Christianity as the principal religion of the United Kingdom. To reflect this, and meet our obligations as a Church School,  Christianity forms the largest part of the curriculum offer, with further additional curriculum time given to Islam and Judaism, Hinduism as well as non religions.   This is in accordance with the guidance provided by the Diocese of Worcester which says:-

“It is important in modern Britain that pupils also look at world faiths other than Christianity…All pupils in our Church Schools will be growing up in an increasingly multi-cultural society, and it is the responsibility of all schools to see that they are prepared for this diversity.”

The curriculum has been designed to ensure that all pupils not only learn about religions, but also identify what we can learn from their teachings. Pupils are taught about how religion and peoples’ beliefs help shape the way they live their lives.
